The Euro 2024 knockout rounds started with fireworks, as big names crashed out and surprises abounded. Here's a rundown of the action:

Euro 2024 Round of Last 16
Euro 2024 Round of Last 16

Switzerland 2 - 0 Italy - the first shock of the round of 16? Italy falling out to the dominance and structure of the Suisse team, not a surprise for those fixated on the tournament.

Germany 2 - 0 Denmark - Germany remain dominant and continue to impress this tournament, A great deal of people were looking past them at the start, but they look (alongside Spain) incredibly dangerous.

England 2 - 1 Slovakia - Game of the tournament so far? I joke, but definitely the most stressful for a fan, especially for a team that was considered an early favourite, and now a late favourite given their run of the draw.

Spain 4 - 1 Georgia - the First 30 minutes of this game, was for me, the game of the round, but after Georgia missed a few opportunities to double the lead, the strength of the Spanish proved far to much. A great performance for the Georgian team overall.

France 1 - 0 Belgium - The score doesn't do the game justice, a whilst it could have easily been 3 or 4 goals to France, the Belgians showed their quality and held of the pressure. A fair result, Mbappe marches on.

Portugal (3) 0 - (0) 0 Slovenia - I have never seen a player so desperate to score a goal in my life, Ronaldo, whether due to chasing his own personal records, or trying to finish 'maybe' his last tournament on high, was focused on one thing, scoring. It wasn't to be, his late penalty was saved by Oblak, and after a tight extra time, Costa stepped up to give the best penalty shootout performance i have seen in the Euros.

Romania 0 - 3 Netherlands - I actually had high hopes for Romania and the first 15 minutes backed that up - Klopp Level Pressing - and thus far they have performed reasonably well in this tournament and the Netherlands... slightly under par, but, despite a few shaky moments at the back for the Dutch, they were to much for the Romanians to handle.

Austria 1 - 2 Turkey - A goal before i had time to take a sip of my Gin and Tonic. The usually organised Austrians were shaky, Turkey were pushing non stop and their efforts paid off. A close game, super entertaining, but the Turks proved to much for the Austrians (and i was baking them to get to the Semis..)

This Euros has been full of surprises—not least Gareth Southgate's team selections.

....Now to think of my Fantasy Team Selection for the Quarters.
